The Whimsical Return is adapted from the novel Tang Zhun by Jie Yu 2 and serves as a sequel to the 2018 series Tang Dynasty Tour. The story follows a modern archaeologist who travels back to the Tang Dynasty, becoming entangled in royal court politics.
