Luo Shu wants the head of Xiangtang to identify Niu Dali’s corpse, but unexpectedly Xiaoyue sends someone to secretly remove Niu Dali’s body. Zi Yan witnesses this and immediately reports to Luo Shu and Liu Wan. Luo Shu asks Qi Menglin, who is crouched outside, to help retrieve the body. The head of Xiangtang recognizes Niu Dali as his subordinate.
Luo Shu reviews the clues she has gathered: a month ago, Xiaoyue went to Xiangtang to seek a child; Niu Dali made her pregnant. After Xiangtang was eradicated, Niu Dali had nowhere to go and came to seek Xiaoyue. Xiaoyue has some leverage over Niu Dali and obeys him completely. Xiaoyue wants Zhou Xian to divorce Xue Wenyin, so she has Niu Dali hide her own underwear under Xue Wenyin’s bed. Liu Wan concludes that Xiaoyue killed Niu Dali to silence him, but Luo Shu feels something is wrong. Xiaoyue’s original intention was to frame Xue Wenyin; she had no need to kill Niu Dali. However, Liu Wan is convinced Xiaoyue is the murderer and wants to involve Han Muzhi to capture Xiaoyue.
Luo Shu knows Han Muzhi well. The reason he is holding back is that he does not want the women harmed in the past at Xiangtang to be implicated. Luo Shu wants to find a mutually beneficial solution. Xue Wenyin and others can’t wait and are eager to bring Xiaoyue to justice. Luo Shu wants to find a safe method. Xue Wenyin wants to end her life, and Luo Shu accidentally discovers that Xue Wenyin is covered in injuries, realizing that Zhou Xian was the one who hit her. In a fit of anger, Xue Wenyin goes to the county office to file a complaint.
Captain Cai is ordered to come to Zhou’s house to arrest Xiaoyue. Zhou Xian desperately tries to block him, reminding Xue Wenyin to consider the bigger picture. Xue Wenyin refuses to speak, Zhou Xian fiercely defends Xiaoyue, earnestly pleading with Xue Wenyin to give Xiaoyue a break, even bringing out their son to appeal. This infuriates Xue Wenyin, who blurts out that the son is not Zhou Xian’s. Zhou Xian becomes furious and reaches out to beat Xue Wenyin. Luo Shu loudly scolds Zhou Xian and suggests questioning him in the residence.
Luo Shu interrogates Xiaoyue about her relationship with Niu Dali. Xiaoyue repeatedly claims they are cousins. Luo Shu exposes her lie in front of her, revealing her going to Xiangtang to seek a child. Liu Wan suspects that Zhou Xian’s son is actually Niu Dali’s. Zhou Xian does not believe it at all. Luo Shu asks Captain Cai to find Niu Dali’s family to confront Xiaoyue. Zhou Xian doesn’t want the family scandal to spread and tells Captain Cai to have a meal first before going. He also dismisses Luo Shu and the others.
In the room, only Zhou Xian and Xiaoyue remain. Zhou Xian relentlessly pressures Xiaoyue to reveal the truth. Xiaoyue mocks Zhou Xian for his incompetence. Zhou Xian, enraged, starts violently choking Xiaoyue. Luo Shu, Liu Wan, Xue Wenyin, and Captain Cai rush in to pull Zhou Xian away. Xiaoyue verbally abuses Zhou Xian in front of everyone. She has been Zhou Xian’s childhood sweetheart, but Zhou Xian married Xue Wenyin for his career. Xiaoyue went to Xiangtang to have a son for Zhou Xian, only to bring about so much trouble. Xiaoyue denies killing Niu Dali and confesses that Zhou Xian had her move Niu Dali’s body.
Luo Shu suspects Zhou Xian killed Niu Dali, but lacks solid evidence, so she has to temporarily shelve the matter. Liu Wan urges Luo Shu to quickly capture Zhou Xian and bring him to justice. Luo Shu tells her to quickly find the murder weapon. Xue Wenyin, hearing their conversation, voluntarily offers to help investigate. Luo Shu advises her to rest peacefully.
Luo Shu and Liu Wan rack their brains, suspecting that the murder weapon is the incense burner. They decide to search Xiaoyue’s room for the weapon. Xue Wenyin, under the cover of night, secretly places the incense burner in Xiaoyue’s room and is caught by Luo Shu and Liu Wan. This was orchestrated by Luo Shu, who suspects Xue Wenyin is the murderer, intentionally making Xue Wenyin mention their conversation and setting up a trap.
Xue Wenyin admits she killed Niu Dali. She inadvertently saw Xiaoyue bribing Niu Dali to frame her. She approached Niu Dali to negotiate, offering double the reward money, as long as Niu Dali says that the child isn’t Zhou Xian’s in front of Zhou Xian. Niu Dali started to grope her, Wenyuan desperately resisted, Niu Dali fell to the ground and fainted. Xue Wenyin then used a rope to strangle Niu Dali to death, creating a suicide scene.
The next morning, Xue Wenyin follows Captain Cai to the county office to confess. Liu Wan is heartbroken. Luo Shu kindly advises Liu Wan, encouraging her to bravely pursue her own feelings. Liu Wan gains new respect for Luo Shu through this incident and allows Luo Shu to continue staying at the county office. Luo Shu decides to leave the county office to travel the world, and Liu Wan envies her.
As Luo Shu leaves Zhou’s house, she sees Qi Menglin has been waiting for her. Luo Shu feels warm inside and shares her thoughts with Qi Menglin. Qi Menglin decides to accompany her on her journey. Zhou Xian writes a divorce letter to Xiaoyue. Xiaoyue leaves Zhou’s house with her child. Han Muzhi removes Zhou Xian from his position as the teacher.
