Staring out the window at He Jiahao, He Jiasu says, “He’s not ‘Top Student’ nor ‘Model Pupil.’ He’s just He Jiahao.” Those words comfort He Jiahao. Turning around, He Jiahao sees Lin Junrong. He asks Lin Junrong why he’s here, and Lin Junrong answers he’s come to demand money from He Jiasu. He Jiahao pulls him aside, and Lin Junrong insists on getting the money immediately. He Jiahao explains he doesn’t have any on him right now and suggests going home to fetch some pocket money. Scoffing at the idea, Lin Junrong asks how much pocket money could possibly be worth. He demands 100,000 yuan from He Jiahao, who says he doesn’t have that much. Lin Junrong urges him to call his mother, but He Jiahao says she would never agree.
At that point, Lin Junrong starts raising his voice to attract their classmates’ attention. He claims to be He Jiasu’s biological father and says, logically, He Jiahao should address him as “Uncle.” He continues that since He Jiasu is his own son, and he’s tight on business funds, he came to ask for money but was refused. Hearing this, the surrounding students begin to whisper among themselves, and Lin Junrong keeps talking while a distressed He Jiahao covers his ears. Lin Junrong accuses He Jiahao of “faking an illness” and declares he won’t leave unless he gets money. Faced with everyone’s stares, He Jiahao collapses onto the ground.
Just then, He Jiasu rushes out of the classroom, pins Lin Junrong to the ground, and beats him up. Lin Junrong keeps begging him to stop. Ultimately, both of them end up at the police station. The police officer says they’ve reached an agreement—once they sign, they can go. Lin Junrong complains that he’s been beaten badly and is only getting a meager sum. The officer tells him if he’s unsatisfied, he should get a medical assessment and come back later. Lin Junrong decides to let it go. After signing, He Jiasu is about to leave when the police say Lin Junrong is suspected of fraud and must stay for further investigation. As he’s taken away, Lin Junrong shouts at He Jiasu, asking how he could just abandon him.
He Jiasu is about to exit when he receives a call from Chen Long’an, who says something came up at the martial arts school and he can’t come pick him up. Once the call ends, He Jiasu sees He Hongguang waiting for him at the station entrance. Together, they go out for morning tea.
Over tea, He Hongguang asks why he has really come back. Instead of answering directly, He Jiasu reminisces about how, when they were young, He Hongguang would bring them out for morning tea. He recalls that after their meal, they would visit his sick father at the hospital. Back then, his mother was always out playing mahjong, secretly meeting up with Lin Junrong. Sometimes, He Jiasu stayed over at He Jiahao’s place. On one occasion, he asked He Hongguang to sign a test paper for him.
Since his grades were poor, He Hongguang refused at first. Upset, young He Jiasu retorted that it didn’t matter because He Hongguang wasn’t his father anyway. Yet ultimately, He Hongguang signed it and advised him to learn to speak more gently—there are times when softening your stance means you won’t lose out. Thinking back on all of this, He Jiasu confides that sometimes he really wishes He Hongguang were his real father.
Once again, He Hongguang demands to know the real reason for his return. This time, He Jiasu explains he’s here to remove his mother from the household registry. He also says that He Jiahao is suffering from persistent depression and asks He Hongguang to look after him more. But He Hongguang points out that He Jiahao’s condition stems from guilt caused by none other than He Jiasu.
He then adds that what happens in their family is none of He Jiasu’s concern. With that, he hands over a bank card and tells him to leave.
Back at the martial arts school, He Jiasu packs his things, planning to go. Chen Long’an remarks that now that He Hongguang has made it clear they’re not connected, there’s no need for him to remain in Xiqiao Village. Even so, He Jiasu insists on leaving. Chen Long’an only asks that this time, he stay in touch.
Meanwhile, at home, He Jiahao keeps trying to call He Jiasu, but can’t get through. Chen Decai starts bringing up the He family’s business again, and Chen Junli can’t take it anymore, telling him times have changed. With his bags packed, He Jiasu prepares to depart. Chen Long’an asks if he truly isn’t going to see He Jiahao before he goes.
