Just as he was about to intervene, Jiang Yidi stunned everyone by taking down the harasser herself, dragging him into the women’s restroom.
Challenges at Work
Xie Linhui and the president attended a group meeting, where they were informed of a major decision: the weekly magazine would transition to a monthly publication. This restructuring would inevitably result in layoffs—a decision Xie Linhui struggled to accept.
News of the impending layoffs quickly spread among the staff, causing widespread anxiety. Xie Linhui was aware of the president’s criteria for the layoffs: employees with connections or influential backgrounds would be spared, leaving competent and hardworking individuals vulnerable.
Frustrated and emotional, Xie Linhui confronted the president, but he dismissed her as overly sentimental. Although she understood the financial challenges facing the group, she firmly believed layoffs were neither the only nor the best solution. Determined to take responsibility, Xie Linhui volunteered to draft the layoff list herself. She reasoned that while she had already offended many people, this way, she could at least ensure a fair process.
Gao Tian approved her proposal, instructing HR to cooperate with both the president and Xie Linhui.
Back at the magazine, Xie Linhui called a staff meeting to explain the group’s decision. Layoffs were unavoidable, but she assured everyone she had secured more time and proposed a scoring system to determine the cuts. However, Lu Jian was notably absent, citing an interview as his excuse.
