Yang Guangyao, unable to find anything in the locker, returns empty-handed. Meanwhile, Zhang Tianming and Chen Kaiqing, while tailing Mr. Shi, are discovered. Mr. Shi urges them to leave. That night, Mr. Shi and his wife celebrate with wine and plan a vacation abroad. The next morning, Mr. Shi finds his wife murdered and calls the police.
Yang Guangyao and his team arrive at the villa to investigate. They question Mr. Shi about the mastermind behind everything. Mr. Shi takes a sip of water and goes upstairs to change clothes, intending to give a statement at the police station. However, when the police hear a noise and rush upstairs, they find him unconscious. The police suspect Mai Zhihong is behind this, given the use of a tranquilizer dart. However, the experienced Yang Guangyao believes it’s not his style. Connecting the dots, they try to determine the killer’s motive.
Later, Yang Guangyao drives Chen Kaiqing and her father. Overhearing their conversation, he refrains from interrupting. After dropping them off, Yang Guangyao, with his detective instincts, asks Chen Kaiqing’s father if he heard what she said. When he denies it, an angry Chen Kaiqing arrives and accuses Yang Guangyao of doubting her father. Back home, they discuss the case. After Chen Kaiqing leaves, her parents worry about losing her.
After shopping with her father, Chen Kaiqing prepares to return to work. She suddenly notices her father’s briefcase and tries to call him, but his phone is off. Sensing something is wrong, she checks surveillance footage and learns his location. She rushes there, but Mai Zhihong manages to escape.
With the new evidence, the police attribute the murders to Mai Zhihong. However, Yang Guangyao suspects it’s a deliberate setup. That night, Chen Kaiqing’s father has nightmares and calls his daughter to his side. He wants to take the family back to Canada. Chen Kaiqing, however, wants to stay and resolve the case first, asking for time to consider.
They continue investigating Mai Zhihong and question his sister about the girl in the sketch. She claims to know nothing but mentions her brother’s former tutor, providing a new lead. Chen Kaiqing makes calls to find this tutor but to no avail. Exhausted, she rests her head on the desk. Zhang Tianming passes by and puts a jacket on her, a gesture noticed by Yang Guangyao. Later, Yang Guangyao tells Zhang Tianming about Chen Kaiqing’s possible move to Canada. Zhang Tianming feels he has no right to interfere but expresses regret.
Seeing Zhang Tianming’s obliviousness, Yang Guangyao urges him to pursue Chen Kaiqing, revealing his feelings for her. Zhang Tianming insists he’s focused on the case and his family and has no time for romance. Unbeknownst to them, Chen Kaiqing, returning with the jacket, overhears their conversation.
Realizing his mistake, Yang Guangyao apologizes to Chen Kaiqing and shares heartwarming stories about his family. Touched by his words, Chen Kaiqing thanks him, feeling a sense of guilt.
