While paying respects to his deceased wife, Yang Guangyao once again pondered how she might guide him through the current situation. Soon after, Dr. Zhou approached him, admitting that from their very first meeting, she had recognized who he was. She had even overheard his conversations with his daughter, confirming their father-daughter relationship. After hearing this, Yang Guangyao explained the unusual circumstances behind his involvement in the case. Impressed by his honesty, Dr. Zhou agreed that, going forward, she would respect her daughter’s choices. However, she also requested that Yang Guangyao stop investigating her husband. He refused.
Back at the station, Yang Guangyao discussed with Zhang Tianming the matter of Forensic Doctor Chen changing his name. Shortly afterward, Dr. Zhou called to say she had found evidence of her husband’s name change. Meanwhile, Zhang Tianming phoned in to report that Zhuang Xiaohua had gone missing, prompting Yang Guangyao to rush to the scene immediately.
On the other side, the kidnapped Zhuang Xiaohua mentioned to her captor that she intended to call Sanders. Hearing this, Forensic Doctor Chen swiftly knocked her out and fled. After bringing Zhuang Xiaohua to the hospital, Zhang Tianming and the others questioned her at her bedside, hoping she would come clean about the Jingshun Building fire from years past. Instead, she played dumb and demanded her defense lawyer.

Later, Yang Guangyao met with Dr. Zhou again, urging her to help him find evidence against her husband. After returning, Dr. Zhou secretly entered the room to look for her husband’s belongings. Her daughter also joined in, unaware that Yang Guangyao had intentionally kept the truth from her to prevent her from getting hurt. However, as a police officer, Chen Kaiqing insisted on learning the facts and immediately joined in the search. Unexpectedly, just as they found a box of ashes, Forensic Doctor Chen appeared. Feeling betrayed by his family, he furiously emptied the contents into the toilet, flushing them away, intending to ensure that this “scum of a father” would never find peace.
That night, Forensic Doctor Chen couldn’t sleep. Memories flooded his mind—how he had once deliberately chained a door shut to trap his father inside. Witnessing her father’s actions disturbed Chen Kaiqing. She went to Zhang Tianming, pouring out her concerns. Without concrete evidence, Zhang Tianming explained that the best they could do now was to prevent anyone else from hurting Sanders. Before Sanders left Hong Kong, they needed solid proof to hold him legally accountable.
To get close to Sanders, Zhang Tianming went to the hospital to see Zhuang Xiaohua in person. He made it clear that her silence wouldn’t halt the investigation into the Jingshun Building incident. He even asked her to help introduce him to Sanders directly.

When Zhang Tianming returned to meet with Yang Guangyao and the others, he announced his plan to infiltrate Sanders’ circle to gather stronger evidence. With Sanders planning to leave Hong Kong soon, this seemed like their only opportunity. Though hesitant, Yang Guangyao reluctantly agreed. Afterward, he met with his friend Liu Weitao by the seaside. As they talked and reminisced about a rescue at sea twenty years ago, Liu Weitao candidly admitted he had never considered marriage—he worried he couldn’t protect his future partner. Deeply moved by these words, Yang Guangyao felt a surge of emotion.
Soon enough, Zhuang Xiaohua introduced Zhang Tianming to Sanders face-to-face. Meanwhile, Forensic Doctor Chen, uneasy and restless, mentioned to his wife during a meal that he planned to leave. Hearing this, Dr. Zhou immediately called to inform Yang Guangyao.
Just as Zhuang Xiaohua was preparing to bring Zhang Tianming over to meet Sanders, Zhang Tianming arranged everything in advance with Liu Weitao. However, late at night, Dr. Zhou’s phone call was quickly noticed by her husband, who grew suspicious.
