Moonlight Mystique – Episode 7 Recap/Review

Zhong Zhao investigates his parents' mysterious death while Bai Shuo trains in alchemy, facing threats from Lengquan Palace.

While Lao Gui was imparting Bai Shuo with magical techniques, he first taught her how to hold her breath and methods for escaping life-threatening situations. Frustrated, Bai Shuo imitated Fan Yue to threaten the opponent. Because of this, Lao Gui stated that he would teach her family guardian skills, but the so-called skills turned out to be divination and alchemy, which were entirely different from Bai Shuo’s desire to become strong quickly. Dissatisfied with what Lao Gui was teaching, Bai Shuo expressed her discontent. Lao Gui then told her that you cannot become fat by eating in one bite, nor can you reach the sky in one step. Pursuing lofty and distant goals, being impatient for quick success, will ultimately lead to worsening situations because becoming strong involves not only physical power but also the cultivation of one’s character. Upon hearing Lao Gui’s words, Bai Shuo had an epiphany, sincerely became his disciple, and began learning alchemy and divination. Her talent and effort greatly pleased Lao Gui.

Originally, the Immortal Yan Huo of the Jin Yao Sect wrote letters to the Seventy-Two Immortal Sects, calling for a joint attack on the Lengquan Palace. However, the response was minimal, with most letters sinking into the sea of silence. Only the Kunlun and Wuliang Sects were willing to go to war. Regarding this situation, Jin Yao was not very surprised but did not expect the willing sects to be fewer than three. Additionally, without Zhong Zhao’s Mantou Shop to support them, the treasury of the Lanling Sect was gradually depleting.

Now that Zhong Zhao had been punished and had reflected on his actions, Jin Yao lifted his confinement and sent disciples to find Lao Gui to seek healing pills. Coincidentally, Bai Shuo was in the room and overheard the conversation between the disciple and Lao Gui. She finally realized that Zhong Zhao had delayed reporting the information to save her, nearly causing the death of everyone in Ning’an City. Meanwhile, Jin Yao personally went to Si Guo Cliff to visit Zhong Zhao, answering his doubts and encouraging him to go down the mountain to gain experience and temper his character. Zhong Zhao still wanted to uncover the cause of his parents’ death, but Jin Yao mentioned that the entire Lanling Sect had mobilized for a year to investigate without any results. He advised Zhong Zhao to move forward and start a new life.

Recently, actions from Lengquan Palace have been frequent, exterminating three clans within three months. Tian Yu even seized the inner elixir of the clan leaders of the three clans to treat his severed tail injuries. This urgent action suggests that he intends to cause more trouble. Fan Yue was not too worried because, with him around, Tian Yu couldn’t stir up waves for the time being. The immediate priority was to have Bai Shuo find a way to gather the Five Thoughts. Tian Huo suspected that Fan Yue had feelings for Bai Shuo and must not let her become the main weakness of the Hall Master. In contrast, upon hearing about Zhong Zhao’s punishment, Bai Shuo felt heavy-hearted and had complex thoughts, confiding in Lao Gui. Bai Shuo clearly understood that she and Zhong Zhao could not go back, and she had no right to blame the other party. Therefore, everything that happened in Ning’an City was initiated by her. Lao Gui told Bai Shuo that life is a process from having nothing to having nothing again. The beginning and the end are predetermined, but the experiences in between need to be decided by oneself. He advised her to remember “No attachment, no self-torment, no forcing, no pretentiousness” and to live her life well.

Before descending the mountain to gain experience, Zhong Zhao carefully read the hand-written notes left by his parents. Reflecting on what Fu Ling had said, he decided to personally investigate the truth by going to the demon clan. Fu Ling had been waiting for Zhong Zhao for a long time and took him into the demon clan’s cemetery, pointing out that the scorpion demon Qian Yin died before Zhong Zhao’s parents, making it impossible for him to be the murderer. Bai Shuo browsed through the alchemy manual and found that it lacked content on the first-grade elixir. She then inquired with Lao Gui about the situation, betting that she could definitely concoct such a first-grade spirit elixir. In the dead of night, feeling bored while refining alchemy, Bai Shuo chatted with Fan Yue through a small conch shell. They shared their respective lives and admired the same bright moon.

Fu Ling reported to Tian Yu about the progress in winning over Zhong Zhao, stating that she had provided him with the clues he wanted and helped strengthen his obsession. Once a dark demon was born, it would be used by Lengquan Palace. Tian Yu appreciated Fu Ling’s plan and ordered her to use every possible method to make Zhong Zhao abandon his immortancy and join the demons, pledging allegiance to Lengquan Palace. Not long after, Bai Shuo successfully refined a second-grade elixir. Just as she was about to celebrate, Immortal Jing Lei suddenly appeared, intending to kill Bai Shuo for associating with the demon clan. Zhong Zhao drew his sword to stop Jing Lei, and Bai Shuo stated that her affairs were unrelated to Zhong Zhao and decided to leave the immortal clan. However, Jin Yao blocked Bai Shuo’s path, deciding to forcibly erase her memories. As a result, Bai Shuo’s forehead mark suddenly appeared, and the screen prompted the next “One Thought” information.

In a critical moment, Fan Yue arrived in time to take Bai Shuo away. As a result, Lao Gui was punished by the Lanling Sect by being required to refine an additional one hundred great tonic pills each month and sell them to support the sect. Jin Yao thought of the Lanling ancestral teachings, which indicated that in the future, a human girl would awaken the No-Thought Stone. She is the only person in the world capable of activating the Divine Stone, suggesting that Bai Shuo is the destined one mentioned in the Divine Domain. Zhong Zhao asked Jin Yao whether he intentionally avoided bringing back the No-Thought Stone. Jin Yao stated that he had his own reasons for his actions.

At this moment, in the Hao Yue Hall, Bai Shuo depicted the scene she had seen earlier and learned that the object was named “Wutong Heart Fire.” The others analyzed that the next “One Thought” would appear in a different city, but the location of the other city was difficult to find. Because Bai Shuo saw many immortal and demon offspring gathering in the other city, it seemed that not only they needed to enter, but they also had to hold the Wutong Martial Banquet to allow the offspring of immortals and demons to enter the city. Fan Yue stated that the other city had not held the Wutong Martial Banquet for seven years, and no one knew the reason.
