Moonlight Mystique – Episode 21 Recap/Review

Fan Yue and Bai Shuo deepen their romance amid betrayals and sacrifices, unlocking new powers and strengthening their bonds.

Fu Ling confirms the existence of the mark but does not reveal this matter publicly. Additionally, after seeing Bai Shuo’s short blade, she spares her life, choosing not to deliver a fatal blow. Upon returning to the Unruly Tower, Bai Shuo desperately practices swordsmanship, feeling partly responsible for Mu Jiu’s demise and striving to become stronger to protect those around her. Tian Huo comforts her, assuring her that she should not blame herself; Mu Jiu’s sacrifice was for everyone, without expecting anything in return and harboring no resentment.

Chang Mei places three small foxes under the Love Tree, each representing Ah Qi, Xiao Ba, and Mu Jiu. Reflecting on past events, Chang Mei finally understands many things. Previously, Linglong had told her never to return to the fox clan and to live freely as Ah Fu. However, true freedom is not only physical but also emotional. After enduring millennia of grudges and grievances, she willingly stays with the fox clan to tend to the Love Tree and accompany those she cares about.

When Tian Huo shares this with Bai Shuo, hoping that both Bai Shuo and Fan Yue can find new beginnings, Bai Shuo gradually lets go of her psychological burdens. Cang Shan playfully teases Tian Huo, expressing that he is fulfilling Mu Jiu’s wishes. Hearing this, Tian Huo tearfully tells Cang Shan that she will slowly come to terms with Mu Jiu’s departure.

Fan Yue finally agrees to take Bai Shuo to the secret chamber of the Hao Yue Hall and shares his painful experience of losing his clan. Fan Yue explains that he lost his memory after waking up from collecting herbs on the mountain. He then discovered that he is the grandson of Gu Shang, the leader of the Bai Ze clan, and has a younger brother named Qi Feng. Since then, Fan Yue fully integrated into the Bai Ze family, living a peaceful and happy life until the Tiger Clan forcibly invaded, capturing all Bai Ze members and demanding a child with purple eyes.

To protect his clan, Gu Shang had to hand over Qi Feng with the purple eyes. However, even after the Tiger Clan found the child, they continued their ruthless slaughter. Gu Shang cast a spell to control Fan Yue to ensure his safety and, in his final moments, transferred all his spiritual power to Fan Yue, urging him to live well.

Because of this, Fan Yue became obsessed with revenge, practicing various demonic arts and leaving behind the Seven Stars Soul-Consuming Mark. When he sought vengeance against the Tiger Clan, he found that the clan had already been exterminated and Qi Feng was nowhere to be found. Fan Yue introduces the memorial plaques of his grandfather Gu Shang and his brother Qi Feng to Bai Shuo. Bai Shuo expresses that she will always accompany Fan Yue, and the two confirm their romantic relationship.

Inside the Cold Spring Palace, Tian Yu is furious at Fu Ling for repeatedly failing her missions. Zhong Zhao speaks up on Fu Ling’s behalf, leading Chen Ye to suspect him of being the traitor. After Tian Yu orders Zhong Zhao and Chen Ye to leave, she makes Fu Ling take the Heart-Eating Pill to prevent any thoughts of betrayal. This poison requires regular doses to avoid fatal reactions, and Fu Ling complies without hesitation.

Fan Yue personally cooks exquisite snacks for Bai Shuo, making her very happy. However, Bai Shuo cannot help but reminisce about her sister Bai Xi. Despite Bai Xi’s ability to summon the Demon King Sword effortlessly, Bai Shuo still carries the short blade she gave her as a birthday gift. Seeing this, Fan Yue gently comforts her.

Soon, Bai Shuo discovers that she has her own spiritual power within her body. Fan Yue personally teaches Bai Shuo the ultimate kill strike to maximize the effectiveness of the Demon King Sword. When facing strong opponents, if her power is insufficient, she can use the strike to surprise them swiftly. Grateful to Fan Yue, Bai Shuo kisses him willingly. Fan Yue, not wanting the moment to end, pulls her into his embrace for a deep kiss.

Fu Ling endures torture and pain in the Cold Spring Palace’s underground chamber. Xi Xi, unable to bear it, quickly seeks help from Zhong Zhao and Fu Ling, explaining all her efforts. However, Zhong Zhao feigns indifference and refuses to help her. Meanwhile, Chen Ye successfully cultivates the evil insect and volunteers to bring back the Wu Nian Stone to Tian Yu.

Fan Yue tasks Tian Huo with finding Bai Xi, entrusting her with this mission. After Tian Huo leaves, Fan Yue accompanies Bai Shuo to the Alchemy Hall. Just then, the Old Turtle arrives at the Unruly Tower to visit his disciple, diagnosing that Bai Shuo’s body remains unharmed by the Weak Water Stone’s spiritual power but has lost the automatic protection mechanism of the Wu Nian Stone. Concerned, Fan Yue worries about Bai Shuo, but she assures him that she can handle the situation.
