An ordinary office worker girl, Ling Miaomiao, loves Saturdays the most. This particular Saturday, Ling Miaomiao’s most important task is to watch her idol Fu Zhou’s new work, “Catching Monsters”. Ling Miaomiao was engrossed in listening when suddenly President Tao called to say there was a meeting, assigning her the responsibility to notify everyone that by noon, without exception, they must be at the office. Ling Miaomiao, being it’s Saturday, hadn’t finished responding when President Tao hung up. So, Ling Miaomiao put on her headphones, listening to the novel while boarding the bus to the company. During the meeting, she was also immersed in the world of “Catching Monsters” until President Tao called her out, snapping her out of slacking off. She was then assigned work that must be submitted by Monday. After listening to the novel all day, Ling Miaomiao found it somewhat absurd, as Fu Zhou is her favorite author, and even the finale had no plot twists. Furious, Ling Miaomiao typed her thoughts in the comment section, but before she could send it, strange patterns suddenly appeared on her computer screen, and shortly after, Ling Miaomiao was sucked into the computer screen, disappearing without a trace.
Ling Miaomiao descended from the sky, only to find that her surroundings were completely different from familiar places. Not only did the environment resemble ancient times, but even the maidens were dressed in traditional attire. Ling Miaomiao picked up a mirror and discovered that she was also dressed in ancient clothing. Before she could recover from her astonishment, everything around her suddenly stopped, and a mechanical voice from the system echoed in her ears. It turned out that Ling Miaomiao had entered the world of this book. From now on, she would be Lin Yu, the malicious supporting female lead and the daughter of the county magistrate, whom she had always been complaining about. She must clear the game to return to real life! To clear the game, she must complete the main quest and survive until the end by participating in the elimination of the great demon and the vengeful woman. The second task is to complete side quests. The side quest would be revealed after Ling Miaomiao completes the beginner’s mission, which is to enter the bridal chamber with Liu Fuyi. Ling Miaomiao, frightened, tried to flee in all directions, but the system disappeared, and everything reset to its original state. Ling Miaomiao ran out of the room and was struck by lightning, nearly leading to a complete ending.
Starting over, Ling Miaomiao returned to the beginning. Xiao Wan brought bridal attire to her. Ling Miaomiao stealthily entered the courtyard, cautiously testing the situation, but unexpectedly encountered an attack. She was completely stuck with a bug. With no other choice, Ling Miaomiao decided to go all out and put on the bridal attire, thinking, “If the marriage must happen, then so be it!” Ling Miaomiao married the male lead, Liu Fuyi, in the plot; their marriage was a fake one to lure out the great demon. Liu Fuyi was very gentlemanly, inviting Ling Miaomiao to share a ceremonial wine cup with him. Suddenly, Ling Miaomiao felt a chill down her spine—the demon seemed to have arrived! Liu Fuyi warned Ling Miaomiao not to look back, but he himself was captivated by the mirror demon in the mirror, walking to the mirror and bringing the mirror demon into the real world. In an instant, the mirror demon and Liu Fuyi engaged in combat, and then disappeared. Ling Miaomiao shrank into a corner, trembling, when the system’s voice echoed in her ears, congratulating her on completing the beginner’s mission. Ling Miaomiao calmed down and recalled the plot. In the original story, she had torn off Mu Yao‘s talisman! Fearful of being blamed for killing the female lead, Ling Miaomiao hurriedly instructed Liu Fuyi to go rescue the person.

Mu Yao was still sleeping in her room when the mirror demon silently entered her chamber. The demon looked at Mu Yao with malicious intent. Upon realizing this, Mu Yao stood up to engage in a battle. Liu Fuyi arrived in an instant to protect Mu Yao, and the mirror demon disappeared once again. When Ling Miaomiao hurriedly arrived, Liu Fuyi had already closed the door. Mu Yao reminded her that the mirror demon was still in the room! The room was eerily quiet. The mirror demon captured all three into the mirror world. Ling Miaomiao reminded the two that they needed to find the real mirror demon and shatter it to return to the real world. Taking her advice, Liu Fuyi and Mu Yao carefully searched among countless mirrors before finally finding the true form of the mirror demon, and finally seeing Ling Miaomiao. However, she was held by the mirror demon, teetering between life and death. The mirror demon always massacres grooms on their wedding night because they cannot resist temptation, and their brides are always obstinate, such as their own masters.
Mu Yao and Liu Fuyi set aside their magical tools to save Ling Miaomiao, but although they were monster hunters, setting aside their tools left them as powerless ordinary people. As the mirror demon was preparing to go on a killing spree, a dazzling sword intent suddenly appeared before their eyes. After a flurry of swordsmanship, Ling Miaomiao saw the second male lead from the novel—the sickly yet ruthless Black Lotus, Mu Sheng, Mu Yao’s brother. Mu Sheng ignored the mirror demon’s threats and, with swift sword strikes, destroyed the mirror demon. In an instant, everyone returned to the real world.
Mu Sheng intended to kill the mirror demon, but Liu Fuyi advised that they could imprison it in the Monster Catching Tower. However, Mu Sheng, being a sister-protecting maniac, refused to listen. Fortunately, Mu Yao felt unwell, which diverted his attention, giving Liu Fuyi time to imprison her in the tower. Realizing that his sister had been supported by Ling Miaomiao all along, Mu Sheng quickly embraced his sister. Only then did Ling Miaomiao have the opportunity to scrutinize Mu Sheng closely—this was her husband in the book. In the original plot, Mu Sheng did not love Lin Yu; he married her merely to humiliate her. After their marriage, he severely humiliated her and placed love curses on her, tormenting her to the point of misery—she suffered of her own accord. Ling Miaomiao shivered all over; with Mu Sheng’s terrifying character, she really was not someone she could mess with.

Mu Sheng was very dissatisfied with Liu Fuyi. If he hadn’t returned today, his sister would have lost her life. As for Liu Fuyi, he not only left her aside but also found a woman to marry. Ling Miaomiao somehow shed tears, and Mu Sheng noticed and deliberately grabbed her to inquire if she was feeling envy or resentment. Only then did Ling Miaomiao realize that Mu Sheng hated Mu Yao and Liu Fuyi being together the most. Ling Miaomiao was so intimidated by Mu Sheng’s strong presence that she didn’t know how to react and collapsed on the ground after he left.
Upon waking up, Ling Miaomiao had not returned to her own world as she had imagined. She carefully recalled the world view of this book. Nine hundred years ago, the catastrophe “Extinguishing the Sky” descended upon the world. The Taoist master Mu Qingshi, in the face of crisis, achieved enlightenment and used his body to replenish the sky. After the Extinguishing the Sky catastrophe, people became wary of demons, and Taoist practitioners gradually took up monster hunting as their profession. The Mu family became a renowned monster-catching family. Seven years ago, the Demon King and Vengeful Woman emerged, wiping out the Mu family. The surviving Mu Yao and Mu Sheng wandered the world, encountering Liu Fuyi along the way, and later meeting Lin Yu, who is now Ling Miaomiao, joining the main group. Lin Yu’s jewelry box dazzled Ling Miaomiao, and the servants even brought out expensive bird’s nest soup. Such a life of luxury made Ling Miaomiao recall that in the book, Lin Yu’s father was a corrupt official—these things must have been plundered from the people!
Ling Miaomiao was urged by the servants to go pick up her father. Throughout the journey, she was very nervous, appearing somewhat furtive to others. However, she saw that her father in the book looked exactly like her real-life father. In an instant, she couldn’t care about anything else and, without saying a word, threw herself into his arms.
