Yun Hongshen tells Zong Fang that a female friend of his, who is a fan of Li Miaohan, wishes to meet the actress. Zong Fang, with feigned curiosity, inquires about the nature of their relationship, to which Yun Hongshen clarifies that she is simply an admirer. Zong Fang playfully suggests it might be his girlfriend, but Yun Hongshen explains she is a friend of his brother, Yun Hongqi. Zong Fang, aware of Yun Hongqi’s recent infatuation with a woman, implies that Yun Hongshen is trying to help his brother. Yun Hongshen explains that his brother is busy tonight, and he happens to be free, thus asking Zong Fang if it would be possible to arrange the meeting. Zong Fang agrees and immediately calls Li Miaohan, who consents to the meeting.
Yun Hongshen proposes a casual dinner together that evening. As they part, Yun Hongshen suggests having a drink with Zong Fang later. Meanwhile, Captain Tang and his team raid Bai Qingkui’s gambling den, uncovering a large quantity of opium and arresting Bai Qingkui.
Zong Fang informs Li Miaohan that Yun Hongshen is suspicious of them and might uncover her connection to Kawashima. He reveals his plan to use the dinner to lure out Kawashima. Li Miaohan immediately tries to warn Kawashima to stay away, but Zong Fang stops her, insisting that Kawashima must appear. Li Miaohan questions if he intends to use a counter-scheme. Zong Fang explains that it’s better to remove a venomous snake’s fangs than to let it constantly threaten them. Li Miaohan reminds him that Guiche has forbidden them from targeting Yun Hongshen. Zong Fang assures her that once they complete this task, she and Kawashima can safely return to Japan. Li Miaohan is overjoyed at this prospect.
That evening, Yun Hongshen arrives with Milan for dinner with Zong Fang and Li Miaohan. Milan compliments Li Miaohan on her beauty, surpassing her on-screen appearance. Li Miaohan playfully agrees, lamenting the detrimental effects of filmmaking on her looks. She then praises Milan’s beauty, deeming her a perfect match for Yun Hongqi.
Taking advantage of Bai Qingkui’s arrest, Yun Hongqi and Xiaodao search Bai Qingkui’s establishment for an account book detailing his illicit activities. They initially find nothing, and Xiaodao questions whether Bai Qingkui would keep such crucial evidence in such a busy place. Yun Hongqi asserts that the most dangerous place is often the safest. Soon after, he discovers the account book hidden within the scroll of a painting. He tears off the last page containing the vital information.
Meanwhile, Yun Hongshen and the others finish dinner. As they leave, Yun Hongshen spots Kawashima in the distance. Wen Yeming gives chase, while Milan deliberately creates a distraction by pretending to be bumped into, delaying Yun Hongshen. Wen Yeming confronts Kawashima alone. Yun Hongshen, arriving moments later, sees the commotion, and Captain Tang, noticing Yun Hongshen’s urgency, also joins the pursuit. Wen Yeming is shot by a Japanese assassin, and Yun Hongshen realizes that both he and Wen Yeming have become targets.
Milan goes to Li Miaohan’s residence and kills her. Kawashima is furious upon learning this. Ke Jingping reprimands Yun Hongshen and his team for the operation’s failure. Yun Hongshen mentions a discovery he made but remains tight-lipped about the details.
Yun Hongqi, examining the stolen account book, adds the character “Zong” (宗) to it, implicating Zong Fang. He then passes this information to Ling Han, believing this will help Yun Hongshen leave the military intelligence and ensure his safety. However, when he informs Yun Hongshen, Yun Hongshen warns him to stop if he values his life. Yun Hongshen knows Ling Han is too intelligent to be fooled by such a clumsy attempt. If Ling Han is indeed the mole, this could put them in grave danger.
As expected, Ling Han learns of the altered account book and suggests to Ke Jingping that they leak false information about Li Miaohan still being alive. This would either expose the mole or lure out Kawashima. Yun Hongshen, uncertain about his and Yun Hongqi’s safety, decides to further complicate matters. He subtly lets Zhu He know that Ling Han is investigating him. As anticipated, Zhu He, fearing exposure, orders the assassination of Bai Qingkui.
