Chasing the Wind – Episode 19 Recap/Review

Lin Ge helps Nie Chi defy his parents, but personal struggles and misunderstandings lead to setbacks in competitions and relationships.

Lin Ge is determined to help Nie Chi express his own thoughts to his parents and, more importantly, to gain their support for his passion. However, her senior doubts Lin Ge’s approach, saying it’s pointless since Nie Chi doesn’t resist himself. “If he really didn’t want to go, would he allow himself to be dragged away?” her senior asks sarcastically, leaving Lin Ge uneasy but pondering if such a situation is indeed possible.

As Nie Chi’s parents pressure him to study abroad, even on the way to the airport, Nie Chi longs to send a message to his girlfriend, Lin Ge. However, his parents prevent him. Just then, officials conducting athlete evaluations arrive, and Lin Ge happens to meet them. They try calling Nie Chi through his mother’s phone, but the call is abruptly cut off. Lin Ge panics until Fang Chao arrives. At the same moment, Nie Chi sends a message to his friends saying he’s stuck in traffic, prompting them to catch up.

Fang Chao carries Nie Chi on his back, and together they run. Despite his parents chasing after them, they can’t keep up. Fang Chao and Lin Ge manage to take Nie Chi away from the road to the airport and bring him to the hospital. At the hospital, Coach Li Haifeng pretends to scold Lin Ge and her friends for their reckless actions but imposes no serious punishment. Nie Chi is relieved and grateful for their help in escaping his parents’ control, allowing him to stay and not go abroad.

Li Haifeng speaks with Nie Chi’s parents, sharing his years of experience as a coach. He explains that many athletes have suffered serious injuries but managed to recover and continue their careers. Nie Chi’s injury is minor and won’t prevent him from competing again, so there’s no need to overreact and crush his dream. Li Haifeng persuades the parents that forcing Nie Chi to abandon his dreams would deal a severe blow to him. He encourages them to listen to their child’s wishes.

Nie Chi is deeply grateful to Li Haifeng for convincing his parents to let him pursue his dream. Meanwhile, Lin Ge consults her senior for advice on rehabilitation therapy for Nie Chi. Fang Chao, unnoticed by everyone, watches Lin Ge with wide eyes, admiration clearly written across his face.

Nie Chi, seeing the guilt on his parents’ faces, expresses his understanding. He acknowledges that although they haven’t been attentive to him over the years, they have provided him with excellent material support. He reminds them that their own success came from following their convictions, and now he wishes to do the same. He pleads with them to stop interfering in his choices.

With Lin Ge’s support, Nie Chi gradually begins rehabilitation. Gao Kai, now more cheerful, openly expresses his concern for Nie Chi. Meanwhile, Lin Feng, Lin Ge’s younger brother, is hospitalized and running out of money. Too embarrassed to ask his sister for help, Lin Feng struggles silently. When Lin Ge learns of her brother’s hospitalization, she rushes to visit him.

Lin Ge instructs Lin Feng’s friends to call their grandmother for permission to sign the necessary documents. However, upon discovering that their grandmother has passed away, Lin Ge realizes she is the only one who can help her brother. She discreetly seeks brand sponsorships to earn money for his treatment. A sponsor pressures her to sign quickly, emphasizing the high cost of her brother’s medical bills.

Lin Ge’s emotional state deteriorates, affecting her performance in a competition, which she ultimately loses. Meanwhile, Zhu Zhu, despite enduring severe knee pain, pushes herself to compete, aiming for a gold medal. Lin Ge encourages her, acknowledging Zhu Zhu’s Olympic champion spirit.

While scrolling through social media, Wei Wei stumbles upon a video of Lin Ge promoting a brand during the competition. Feeling disappointed, she believes she has misjudged Lin Ge. During her next competition, Lin Ge is filled with anxiety, glancing frequently at her coach for reassurance. She hopes to win an Olympic gold medal this time but is ultimately knocked down during the event.

Coach Li Haifeng hands Lin Ge a train ticket, essentially sending her away. When Nie Chi hears the news from Fang Chao, he tries to find Lin Ge but is stopped by the doctor. Lin Ge sends Nie Chi a message, saying she couldn’t bring herself to bid him farewell in person and has chosen to leave quietly.
