Chasing the Wind – Episode 15 Recap/Review

Love grows at the aquarium, heartbreak leads to tears, and tension boils over injuries and family demands in this emotional chapter.

Nie Chi and Lin Ge finally go on a date during their vacation. It’s their first time visiting an aquarium together. As they admire the beautiful fish, Lin Ge tries to get closer for a better look—only to realize how close she is to Nie Chi. When she isn’t paying attention, he sneaks a kiss on her cheek, leaving Lin Ge feeling like he’s being a bit too forward.

Fang Chao is impatiently watching television when his father comes in, telling him that most things in life don’t go as planned and that he should try to let certain things go. Hearing this, Fang Chao can’t hold back his tears anymore. All the courage he had been summoning dissipates, and the emotions he’d been bottling up finally find release.

Nie Chi tells Lin Ge that he wants them to leave behind a beautiful memory—just like those couples who are taking matching-outfit photos in the distance. Their feelings for each other gradually deepen. After hearing his dad’s words, Fang Chao drinks a lot and ends up clutching a trash can, vomiting the whole night. He then tearfully tells his mom that he can’t understand why Lin Ge didn’t choose him—what’s so wrong with him, exactly? When his mom praises him for being kind-hearted, Fang Chao, feeling validated, can’t help but break into a smile.

Fang Chao listens to his mom say that girls don’t choose boys simply because of good family conditions, but rather because they meet the right person. Then, hearing his mom suggest that he go “duke it out” with his rival, Fang Chao proudly tells her he already did—and even left the other guy’s face in a sorry state. Fang Chao’s mother realizes her son has grown up, sighs in relief, and shares a drink with him. Fang Chao knows in his heart that his mom is just trying to comfort him.

Nie Chi and Lin Ge walk hand in hand, admiring the sunset together—a beautifully romantic scene. After Nie Chi gets a call from Fang Chao, he hurries downstairs. Fang Chao launches into a tirade, saying he’s truly happy for his buddy, but also accuses him of “selling him out” by secretly confessing to the girl he likes first. The two start arguing, which frightens Ming Ge, who’s listening in. Unexpectedly, once they step outside, it becomes clear that the two are actually reconciling.

Though Fang Chao leaves home in high spirits, he also receives a heavy task from his parents: during the New Year holiday, he needs to bring both of “those two” home to celebrate. Fang Chao feels utterly put on the spot, but it’s hard to go against his parents’ wishes. Meanwhile, Weiwei accidentally gets scalded while fetching some hot water. The coach blames Lin Ge for not taking good care of Weiwei, knowing full well that Weiwei isn’t very self-sufficient. With the big competition coming up, if Weiwei can’t compete, it will be hard for the team to figure out the best substitution.

Nie Chi suspects something off in the statements Xie Lingwei made during a reporter’s interview. He asks his senior (xuezhang) about it, but the senior feels there might not be any malice in what was said. Nie Chi hopes it’s all a misunderstanding. He believes Lin Ge’s ability to win an Olympic gold medal is purely her own skill, and he thinks it’s going too far for people outside to cast doubt on her.

Meanwhile, Lin Feng is working part-time at a small shop when he suddenly hears that his older sister has won a gold medal—and that their grandmother plans to ask Lin Ge for money. Lin Feng, annoyed, scolds his grandmother, telling her not to go after Lin Ge.

But Grandma keeps insisting that now that Lin Ge has a gold medal, she must have lots of money. To secure a better future for her grandson, she’s determined to get that money. She also accuses Lin Ge of causing Fen Zi (Fenzi) to quit the provincial team and pins all the blame on Lin Ge.
