Zhou Na (played by Chu Xudan) is reading a book titled Chronicles of Yancheng. Suddenly, she loses consciousness. When she comes to, she sees a man sitting by her bed. Mistaking him for a rogue, she hits him and runs out of the room.
Once she rushes into the courtyard, she realizes it’s completely different from her own era. Everyone in the courtyard is dressed in ancient clothing. Upon seeing Cao Xuanxuan, the crowd immediately gathers around, and Cao Xuanxuan, believing she’s been kidnapped, tries to flee but is eventually stopped. Not knowing where she is, Cao Xuanxuan grabs a bailiff’s sword and holds it against a man’s neck to force him to reveal the truth. However, someone knocks her out from behind.
Cao Xuanxuan wakes up in the room again and quietly attempts to escape by climbing out the window. During her escape, she realizes that she may have traveled through time.
Cao Xuanxuan’s sudden awakening ruins many people’s plans. It turns out that Cao Xuanxuan’s spirit had been sabotaged, causing her to fall unconscious. The second madam of the Guo family wanted her distant relative to marry Cao Xuanxuan’s husband. Meanwhile, Master Guo, feeling guilty toward both the Cao family and Cao Xuanxuan, gives up on causing her further harm. Because the courtyard in the Guo residence is huge, Cao Xuanxuan tires from running and returns to her room intending to eat something. Guo Zijie suddenly appears, startling Cao Xuanxuan; both lose their footing and tumble together, with Guo Zijie even managing to steal a kiss.
At this point, members of the Guo family rush in. From their conversation, Cao Xuanxuan learns that she is a child bride and, feeling disdain, decides to leave. However, as soon as she reaches the doorway, she hears that her husband is Guo Zijie (played by Cheng Xiaowen). Recognizing that she has traveled into the Chronicles of Yancheng, she begins searching everywhere for the book so she can return to the modern world.
Cao Xuanxuan looks all over for any clues about Chronicles of Yancheng and decides to go out for some fun first. On the street, she runs into two men who know her original self; they pull her along to Man Chun Courtyard for drinks. The next day, Cao Xuanxuan wakes up hungover, and Guo Zijie is furious with her for wandering around. Guo Zijie decides to bring Cao Xuanxuan to the yamen.
An imperial inspector arrives in Yancheng for an inspection. Wanting to impress the imperial inspector, Guo Zijie immediately convenes court, drawing onlookers. However, only trivial cases are brought forward, which he believes cannot showcase his capability. A subordinate then reports a bizarre case: a woman named Zhao Xiaolin claims her husband was kidnapped by a fox spirit and describes how he vanished, bringing along two of her husband’s friends as witnesses. Everyone finds it strange. The imperial inspector deems the case absurd. Seeing the inspector’s reaction, Guo Zijie orders Zhao Xiaolin and the two friends to be taken into custody and then hurries away to search through books.
Guo Zijie’s actions lead people to believe he doesn’t know how to handle cases. Cao Xuanxuan, who has come across Guo Zijie, reproaches him for being unable to judge the case. While searching through books, Cao Xuanxuan stumbles upon a nameless volume that Guo Zijie treats as a treasure. After they talk for a while, inspiration suddenly strikes Guo Zijie, and he decides to title that book Chronicles of Yancheng.
Guo Zijie delays announcing a verdict, causing the onlooking citizens to chatter among themselves. The imperial inspector also grows impatient. Yet Guo Zijie has no leads. To help him, Cao Xuanxuan steps forward to analyze the case, claiming she can solve it in five days. She makes a deal with Guo Zijie that if she succeeds, she will get Chronicles of Yancheng.
On the following day, just as Guo Zijie is about to resume the trial, Cao Xuanxuan stops him, insisting that they first go to the crime scene to investigate. As they walk through the street, they arrive at the scene and discover a female coroner examining the body. She identifies her own husband as the killer, but the accused husband vehemently denies it. At that moment, the female coroner’s grandfather arrives and likewise recognizes the husband as the murderer. Since Cao Xuanxuan needs a coroner to go to the crime scene, she suggests taking this female coroner with them, but when the latter hears Guo Zijie’s name, she storms off angrily.
While walking through the street, Cao Xuanxuan notices a Rubik’s Cube, which leads her to suspect there may be other people who have also traveled through time. She then spots a notice the yamen has posted to recruit people. Determined to identify anyone else who might be from the modern era, she comes up with the idea of using a Rubik’s Cube test for recruitment.
