Begin Again – Episode 16 Recap/Review

Han Junhao wins despite odds; family bonds deepen as wedding plans progress, but emotions run high with unresolved tensions.

The tension on the racetrack remains high. Tang Ben Douzhen continues to trail closely behind Han Junhao, searching for an opportunity to overtake him. The time gap between them is a mere second. Despite his car leaking oil and emitting smoke, Han Junhao maintains his lead at incredible speeds. The persistent smoke from his car keeps the spectators and live viewers on edge, with Chen Jiahui particularly anxious and on the verge of tears, worried for Han Junhao’s safety.

Han Junhao’s extraordinary performance leads to increased speeds, and although Tang Ben Douzhen makes another attempt to overtake, he fails again. However, the worsening car malfunction becomes increasingly evident. The team monitoring the situation backstage urges Han Junhao to stop, but he accelerates instead. Against all odds, he crosses the finish line in first place, winning the championship with his smoking car.

The crowd erupts in cheers for Han Junhao, and Chen Jiahui weeps tears of joy. On the podium, as Han Junhao stands to receive his award, the audience chants his name. Watching from the stands, Mai Youge and Xu Junle are genuinely happy for him. However, Chen Jiahui quietly slips away before anyone notices.

After the awards ceremony, Han Junhao eagerly calls Chen Jiahui, but she doesn’t answer. Xu Junle and Mai Youge visit him to offer congratulations and deliver an invitation to his older brother’s wedding. The design on the invitation card reminds Han Junhao of Chen Jiahui. Meanwhile, Charles, the team manager, announces plans to wrap up with a press conference and a celebratory party before flying to Shanghai the next day. Although Han Junhao initially considers postponing the trip, he ultimately agrees, recognizing the importance of the team’s sponsors.

Career and Personal Decisions

Xu Junhao informs Wu Kaitong that her transfer application to the U.S. headquarters has been approved, and she is instructed to prepare for her new role within three days. Normally, Wu Kaitong would be thrilled about such a promotion, but her time spent with Wei Shijie has dampened her excitement, leaving her feeling conflicted and uneasy.

Xu Jiajia’s parents meet Xu Junhao’s parents separately. Xu Zhiqiang invites Xu Jianming to a humble local eatery, which Xu Jianming initially criticizes as stingy. However, as their conversation progresses, Xu Jianming gains a newfound respect for Xu Zhiqiang. Despite their differences—one hailing from the north and the other from the south—the two men find common ground, eventually agreeing on their children’s marriage.

Meanwhile, Tang Wei and A-Zhen go jogging together in the morning and bond over a conversation. Tang Wei learns that A-Zhen’s lifestyle shares similarities with Xu Jiajia’s—both enjoy outdoor activities, which might help them connect. Tang Wei also expresses her concerns about the marriage. A-Zhen reassures her, pointing out that her eldest son has a personality similar to her husband’s: both are determined individuals who stand firm once they’ve made a decision. She assures Tang Wei that Xu Junhao’s decision to marry Xu Jiajia is not impulsive, showing empathy for Tang Wei’s motherly worries.z

Elsewhere, Wei Shijie visits Wu Kaitong in the public relations department and learns about her upcoming move to the U.S. They take a trip to the seaside together, where Wu Kaitong surprises Wei Shijie with a beautifully crafted cake, lifting his spirits. In return, Wei Shijie encourages Wu Kaitong to pursue her dreams and go wherever her heart desires.

Choosing a Wedding Dress

Tang Wei, Xu Jianming, and Li Meng accompany Xu Jiajia to try on wedding dresses. Watching their daughter grow up and prepare for marriage stirs a mix of emotions for her parents. Sitting nearby, Li Meng observes the lively family interaction and feels like an outsider. Tang Wei notices this and makes an effort to include Li Meng in the conversation, easing his discomfort.

Celebrations and Reflections

The team throws a victory party for Han Junhao to celebrate his championship win. Han Junhao expresses his gratitude to everyone, emphasizing that the victory belongs to the entire team. Glasses clink as the room fills with cheers, yet Han Junhao’s gaze searches in vain for a particular someone.

Meanwhile, Chen Jiahui is home alone, working on her exhibition concept. In solitude, she finally comes to understand the true emotions and sentiments behind Marilena’s story.
