In a surprising turn of events, the upcoming Chinese costume drama featuring Liu Shishi and Zhang Yunlong has changed its name and direction. Initially introduced as the second chapter in the Fox Spirit Matchmaker trilogy—following Red Moon Pact starring Yang Mi and Gong Jun—this project was originally titled Zhu Ye. But now, it has taken on a new identity as Love in Pavillion, and the team no longer emphasizes its link to the Fox Spirit Matchmaker series.
Fans on Weibo are buzzing with speculation. They believe the decision might be tied to the underwhelming reception of Red Moon Pact, which struggled to meet high expectations. As a result, the production team behind Liu Shishi’s return after A Journey to Love seems eager to present Love in Pavillion as a fresh, independent story.
Love in Pavillion brings together a star-studded cast, including Wu Xuanyi, Zhai Xiaowen, Shen Yue, Ding Yuxi, Zhang Ruonan, Meng Ziyi, and Peng Xiaoran, among others. Adapted from Tuo Xiao Xin’s manhua Hu Yao Xiao Hong Niang and scripted by Pei Zhen, the drama is produced by IQIYI and Stellar Pictures. It is set to run for 36 episodes, each about 45 minutes.
The plot focuses on Dongfang Huaizhu (Liu Shishi), a young girl from the fox clan, who is rescued by Wangquan Hongye, a masked leader of a powerful organization. Though Wangquan Hongye is known for his cold demeanor, he falls instantly for the gentle Dongfang Huaizhu. As he opens the organization to promising young talents from the human world to strengthen his forces, a looming crisis threatens his group and these newly formed bonds.
What fate awaits Dongfang Huaizhu and Wangquan Hongye in Love in Pavillion? Viewers are anxious to find out.
