Tencent’s popular costume drama Guardians of the Dafeng wrapped up its airing on January 18th. Starring Dylan Wang and Tian Xiwei, the series featured a total of 40 episodes, beginning on December 28, 2024.
The TV adaptation made some changes from the original novel, but the final episode left a strong impression on viewers. In the dramatic conclusion, Xu Qian (played by Dylan Wang) faces off against two villains in an epic battle. This climax brought all the heroes together, showcasing their unity and bravery.
After a challenging journey to uphold justice, Xu Qian succeeds and decides to leave his role as a guard of Dafeng City. This emotional farewell moved many in the audience. However, just when it seemed like peace was restored, the emperor arrives to fight. A black magician intervenes, causing Xu Qian to disappear during the battle. This twist makes everyone forget he ever existed, leaving the story on a cliffhanger.
The ending has sparked a lot of excitement on Weibo, with the hashtag #GuardiansOfTheDafengSeason2 trending as fans express their desire for a second season. Typically, successful first seasons lead to sequels, and Guardians of the Dafeng performed well, even if it wasn’t as big as Joy of Life. The drama attracted numerous advertisements and reached a heat index of 30,000 on Tencent.
Given its popularity and the unresolved storylines, there is a strong possibility for a second season. Fans are particularly interested in exploring more about Wei Yuan and the relationship between Xu Qian and the black magician, Xu Pingfeng.
