Bai Lu has officially been announced as the lead for Youku’s much-anticipated costume thriller Tang Palace Mysteries (also known as Mysterious Cases of Tang Palace’s Whispering Green Mist). Known for her stellar performances in ancient costume dramas, Bai Lu takes on her third consecutive role in a historical setting, following her recent works in Moonlight Mystique and Lin Jiang Xian. This time, she’ll step into the role of Li Peiyi, the powerful head of the inner palace guard, leading the drama’s intense investigation.
A Powerful Female-Centric Drama with High Expectations
Unlike many other period dramas, Tang Palace Mysteries is Youku’s only big-budget series centered on a female protagonist. Directed by Yin Tao, renowned for his work on Tale of Dark River featuring Gong Jun and Chang Huasen, this production promises a fresh approach to the mystery thriller genre, with a strong focus on Bai Lu’s character and her journey.
In this drama, Bai Lu stars alongside Wang Xingyue, rumored to play the male lead, and a talented supporting cast, including Zhao Qing. Together, they bring the suspenseful storyline of palace intrigue and murder to life, taking viewers into the heart of a Tang Dynasty investigation.
Plot Twists and Palace Intrigue
The story kicks off with a shocking event at a lantern festival dinner where Princess Huai Si mysteriously dies. Li Peiyi, along with Gu Heng, an officer from the Taishi Bureau, is tasked with uncovering the truth. As they investigate Princess Huai Si’s untimely death, more peculiar cases begin to emerge, all hinting at hidden dangers within the Tang Dynasty palace.
Li Peiyi’s pursuit of justice doesn’t stop with the princess’s case. She finds herself delving into a decade-old mystery connected to her own family. A deeper conspiracy tied to the evil ambitions of the prime minister and a powerful concubine unravels, hinting at a complex web of corruption and power struggles that could shake the kingdom.
