Deep Lurk Episode 37 Recap

Ke Jingping Turns the Tables

Yun Hongshen returned home to find Yun Hongqi lounging in a chair, gazing at the moon. Upon seeing Yun Hongshen, Yun Hongqi mentioned that Secretary Wu had been lying down since returning and should not be disturbed for anything. Yun Hongshen then shared shocking news: Milan had died. Yun Hongqi was stunned for a moment but soon burst into laughter, remarking that it was wonderful news, though it was a pity she hadn’t died by his hand.

Yun Hongshen presented an orchid brooch that Milan had on her at the time of her death. Yun Hongqi told him to throw it away before walking away. He went to his grandmother’s memorial tablet and recalled kneeling there, vowing to take care of his family and the Yun household. Yun Hongqi murmured that he still owed his grandmother and promised to live each day well moving forward.

Meanwhile, Yun Hongshen handed a secret chamber blueprint to Secretary Wu, who commented on how helpful it would be. Yun Hongshen explained that after Linghan’s death, Ke Jingping had pressed him for a deadline to find the key. Yun Hongshen revealed that this had all been part of Ke Jingping’s plan and that he was already under suspicion. Yun Hongshen mentioned that while Ke Jingping had let him accompany him to the hospital that day, Yun Hongshen chose not to go. Despite this, Ke Jingping didn’t secure anything, seemingly allowing Yun Hongshen to see everything.

Secretary Wu asked about the next step, and Yun Hongshen remarked that Ke Jingping had likely already planned for every scenario, leaving Yun Hongshen with no choice but to sleep on it and hope for clarity in the morning.

Later, Yun Hongshen visited Wen Yemian in the hospital, bringing her porridge he had made. He fed her some and even gifted her a protective charm he had carried since childhood, which his mother and grandmother had prayed over to protect him from illnesses. Although Wen Yemian suggested he keep it, Yun Hongshen insisted it was hers now. He kissed her before leaving, which left Wen Yemian so moved that Chen Dongping teased her for staring after him. Wen Yemian asked if Chen knew how to knit, and Chen remarked on how Yun Hongshen had managed to melt even Wen Yemian’s icy demeanor.

Back at the military bureau, Yun Hongshen and Ke Jingping continued discussing the search for the key. Yun Hongshen pondered a cryptic comment from Zongfang before his death, suggesting the key was hidden in a place Yun Hongshen would never think to look—his mental blind spot.

As Yun Hongshen was deep in thought, Chen Dongping arrived with an update: she had made progress investigating the rickshaw driver Wen Yemian had asked her to look into. They discovered Zongfang had once visited Xiangjun Road. Yun Hongshen instructed her to check if anyone had died there on that day, and indeed, someone had. Yun Hongshen deduced that Zongfang may have hidden the key in his own home. Secretary Wu had previously mentioned hearing footsteps that could have been Zongfang’s.

Yun Hongshen rushed to inform Ke Jingping, who sent Chief Gong with Yun Hongshen to retrieve the key. Ke Jingping called Deputy Chen to handle the key. Yun Hongshen protested the urgency but found the key in Zongfang’s room. Upon returning, Deputy Chen was already waiting. Ke Jingping ordered Deputy Chen to decrypt the information, but Yun Hongshen stopped him, declaring the intel fake and accusing Ke Jingping of being the real Kunwu.

When they inspected the secret chamber, it was empty—its contents replaced. Ke Jingping summoned Yun Hongqi, Wen Yemian, and Cheng Huize to the military bureau, revealing that Yun Muzhi was not actually dead. Ke Jingping claimed Yun Hongshen had aligned with the Japanese to protect Yun Muzhi’s life.
