Handsome actor Cheng Yi has been confirmed as the lead in the new Youku costume drama Chang An Er Shi Si Ji. The 34-year-old star recently worked on two other costume titles, namely Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Sword and Beloved and Go to the Mountains and Sea (Fu Shan Hai). Now, he continues his journey in Hengdian to bring this fresh, male-centric drama to life.
Chang An Er Shi Si Ji also brings together a stellar cast that includes Liu Yijun, Wang Jinsong, Zhou Qi, Tong Mengshi, Xu Lu, Ni Dahong, and Zhang Hanyu, among others. This production is helmed by director Pan Anzi, known for directing the popular Under the Microscope, while the screenplay is penned by the writer of Heroes.
Set in the bustling city of Chang’an, Chang An Er Shi Si Ji weaves a mystery centered on Xie Huian, an administrator sent from Huainan County to the capital under a secret decree from Emperor Ji Wuyang. He faces off against General Huben’s Yan Fengshan, who aims to overthrow the emperor and seize power for himself. Xie Huian joins forces with Emperor Ji Wuyang’s trusted ally Hu Ming, loyal General Gu Yu, swordsman Ye Zheng, painter Bai Wan, and young writer Xie Ziling. Together, they fight to uncover hidden threats, thwart Yan Fengshan’s conspiracy, and restore Chang’an to its former glory.
